Eventually, the heat from the engine
of the Model T Ford was harnessed and forced by air-flow into the
passenger compartment, and thus the self-contained Model T heater was
born. No more stinking coal smell, no more scorched legs, clothes, or
blankets.

Reddy Parts has a
Model T Heater that is made
similar to the Model T heater that was being produced for Model T Ford owners
back in the early 1900's. The heater rests on top of the exhaust
manifold and captures the extreme heat that is produced by the engine.
Then, the radiator fan gently forces the warmed air through the heater
and into the passenger compartment via a hole that has been cut in the
top section of the floorboard. The faster the car traveled the better
the airflow. Some owners would cover the hole with a slightly larger
section of sheet metal that was loosely bolted at one corner to the
floorboard, with a bolt, which would allow the owner to open, close, or
regulate the amount of warm air that would enter the car.
If you have a nice, original floorboard and
can't handle the idea of cutting a hole in it, you might consider having
a separate top floor section with a hole made of plywood- just for
wintertime rides.
The Model T Heater that is offered by Reddy
Parts is made to last. Its constructed from 24 gauge cold-rolled steel
and is hand made. Hi-temp paint the color of natural cast iron
covers the heater.
So, Snap on the side curtains,
gas up the Lizzie, and take the family for
a wintertime ride. Perfect for parades, tours, Sunday drives, or the
daily drive to the coffee shop.
